High-Performance Computing Trends of 2022

High-performance computing or HPC allows for computing power aggregation that leads to speed, efficiency, and reliability. Unlike traditional computers and servers, HPC is more powerful supercomputing to process large volumes of data at higher speeds using multiple supercomputers and storage devices.

HPC modules allow companies and organizations to explore and find solutions to problems in different domains, including business, science, and engineering. In today’s article, we will highlight the HPC trends of 2022. Read on!

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence coupled with machine learning algorithms is becoming an integral part of high-performance computing. The massive volumes of data generated daily are of no use for businesses without AI and data analytics.

That’s why businesses should focus more on using AI technologies to achieve high-performance computing capabilities and process large volumes of data and workloads. HPC can power AI workloads, and AI can streamline data centers operations. So, the relationship between HPC and AI is symbiotic.

AI offers a wide range of applications in the HPC environment. For example, it can optimize HVAC systems, improve operational efficiency, and reduce energy consumption. Likewise, health institutions can use AI to monitor health databases and networks.

In addition, AI is beneficial for security purposes, allowing companies to screen, monitor, and analyze large volumes of incoming data. The aim is to detect viruses and malware and implement data protection methods.

Tensor processing units

Graphics processing units or GPUs are high-level hardware to process large volumes of data. Not only do they offer a wide range of applications, from machine learning to genetic data analysis to self-driving cars, but they also efficiently process HPC workloads.

However, Tensor processing units (TPUs) will dominate GPUs in 2022. These are application-specific integrated circuits that streamline and speed up AI-based calculations and improve machine learning algorithms.

TPUs are likewise beneficial for improving neural networks and machine learning via different software and applications, including Tensor Flow. Although the role of GPU for HPC environments will remain central for some time, TPUs offer more speed and reliability. That’s why we recommend keeping an eye on updates of TPUs in 2022.

Hybrid Solutions

Cloud computing has changed the landscape of high-performance computing for the last decade. Hybrid technologies and solutions offered by vendors allow businesses to deploy high-level HPC modules and algorithms to expand, scale, and streamline their operations and generate better outcomes from processed data.

Hybrid HPC solutions focus on cloud systems, leading to improved on-premise data center operations. Combining private hosting with on-premise solutions enables companies to overcome numerous challenges associated with the public cloud.

These include overcoming poor and slow performance, complexities, and data-intensive HPC workloads. Besides, hybrid solutions are more customized based on a company’s specific requirements, allowing for business scalability through cloud agility.

Final Words

Artificial intelligence, TPUs, and hybrid modules can lead to developing new and advanced applications in different industries and domains, including science, business, engineering, data mining, decision-making, financial analysis, and data security. These three trends will dominate the HPC environments in 2022. Therefore, companies need to focus on these trends and improve their understanding to get the most out of them.
